Our Programs
Ensemble Suave 2003-2004

" Romancing the Romanesca"
Italian works tracing a well-known harmonic formula from keyboard to vocal music and back to cello; Haydn goes country, but with beautiful sophisticated-yet-innocent overlay of violin and cello; a little-known but drop-dead gorgeous cello sonata by an Italian cellist; selected Bach arias for soprano with violin obbligato; emotionally-charged early Italian songs by Caccini, an early baroque master.

"The Talented Mr. Stradella"
The exciting and unpredicable Alessandro Stradella strikes chords with meditative violin variation set on 13 bar cello ostinato pattern; then takes on dueling cello and violin for a hysterical romp; the elusive Isabella Leonarda becomes a superior nun in the writing of sacred and secular pieces; Geminiani goes Scottish in his renditions of Scottish folk tunes with violin obbligato; Bach arias for Soprano and Alto, in which a male countertenor transacts the alto part.

"Bridge over Troubled Seine"
Ensemble Suave goes gaily Gallic with a selection of tear-jerking and bodice-ripping vocal music, including a hot chick set by Mondonville, and sensitive art of touching the clavecin by Couperin, plus Barriere, served up with plein angst by cello.

"A Little
Nachschlag Music"
We brake for Schmelzer, and hope you will, too. Other Germanic types will be tastefully displayed, especially the famous "anonymous", that scamp Rosenmuller, and of course Froberger, Froberger, Froberger (baroque's version of Marcia, Marcia, Marcia).

Ensemble Suave invites you to experience its concert series. It is baroque music at its most compelling -- always exciting, ever inventive. The musicians are intriguing, and fun to look at while they experience an intimate connection with music. We look forward to meeting you at an upcoming concert. Next >
